In most cases, people who go for self storage will have family left behind or perhaps even a home that they would like to come back to eventually, all of which are good reasons to leave something behind. The self storage units are typically secured by the renter themselves, and the operators of the self storage do not usually have direct access to the contents inside. This means that the property is largely free from theft and damage, particularly in reputable facilities. There are also many self storage facilities that offer computer control of their operations complete with security cameras that greatly increase security. In a sense, it is almost like leaving your possessions at home, although it is of course much safer in a self storage facility.
